And a yard that schedules riding and turnout for early morning or after sunset, once the ground has cooled. If a stable is still turning horses out at midday in July, walk away.
Fly control and on-site vet access
Heat and standing water bring flies, and flies stress horses and spread disease. Clean yards with proper fly management make a visible difference to how settled a horse stays. Just as important is fast access to a vet. In a heat emergency, minutes matter.
